Equipment Description

The DOP 4000 ultrasonic Doppler velocimeter uses a pulsed ultrasonic echo technique to measure fluid velocity profiles. The velocimeter can simultaneously measure different types of profiles, including Doppler energy profiles, echo profiles, and spectral density (FFT), along with several other useful parameters in flowing liquids. In the laboratory, this instrument is particularly used to characterize velocity profiles in non-uniform channels.

  • Pulse emission period: 100 ns (10 MHz) to 2,220 ns (450 kHz)

  • Step size: 20 ns

  • Three emission power levels, with maximum instantaneous levels:

    • Low: 10 Vpp

    • Medium: 30 Vpp

    • High: 60 Vpp

  • Pulse repetition frequency: 0.1 Hz to 15,625 kHz

  • Reception: 4 to 1,000 gates

  • Uniform gain (TGC): −40 to +40 dB

  • Curve: Linear in dB

  • Sensitivity: > −100 dBm
