Laboratory Research

Design, synthesis, and characterization of organic nanomaterials to advance fundamental knowledge in materials science and for various application areas, including materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, energy, molecular electronics, and nanomedicine.


Areas of Expertise

Prof. Jean-François Morin's research group actively develops new organic nanomaterials, including dendrimers and semiconductors, as well as carbon-rich nanomaterials, such as nanotube derivatives and functionalized graphene nanoribbons. The proposed strategies aim to address the main challenges generally associated with conventional synthesis methods.

Research projects focus on both material synthesis and characterization along three main areas:

  1. Development of functionalized carbon-rich nanomaterials (graphene, nanotubes, and nanoparticles) using hybrid methods combining synthesis and self-assembly.

  2. Development of new π-conjugated materials based on polycyclic aromatic compounds.

  3. Development of new therapeutic dendrimers for nanomedicine.


Teaching

Research and Development (R&D) Services

Research services include scientific consulting, literature reviews, proof-of-concept studies, and basic synthesis and characterization of new materials and polymers with research professionals.

Over the years, Prof. Jean-François Morin's research group has developed unique expertise in materials science in Canada, particularly in the synthesis of organic nano-objects using a hybrid approach, which combines the advantages of the two main nanomaterial synthesis strategies, bottom-up and top-down, to create novel nanoscale structures.
