Equipment Description
Infrared spectroscopy provides information about chemical bonds and molecular structures. Each molecule absorbs infrared radiation at wavelengths characteristic of its vibrational modes. Analysis of the infrared spectrum can therefore provide information for identifying the molecule being analyzed. This instrument is equipped with a microscope that enables analyses to be focused on specific areas of a sample. It can therefore be used for sample mapping, as the instrument can acquire individual infrared spectra for each pixel of an image of the material under study, providing a spatial representation of its chemical bonds.
This instrument is used in the laboratory to analyze polymers, natural products, organic ligands associated with nanoparticles, and surface coatings. It is also used to analyze biological materials, primarily through microscopy, to investigate the spatial distribution of specific spectral bands (chemical mapping).
