Equipment Description
This non-destructive characterization technique allows the determination of a sample’s absorption properties, such as transmittance and absorbance, in the ultraviolet (UV) and visible (Vis) regions, and even in the near-infrared (NIR) region for solutions. The instrument can also be used to determine molar absorption coefficients and, consequently, characterize the energy levels of frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO–LUMO).
In the laboratory, the instrument is primarily used to determine the concentration of absorbing species (active ingredients, peptides, etc.) in solutions, study gelation kinetics, and characterize specific absorption bands, such as the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak of gold nanoparticles, which shifts depending on nanoparticle size.
Technical Specifications
Lamps: Deuterium lamp (from 190 nm) and tungsten-halogen lamp (up to 1100 nm), with lamp switching between 295 and 364 nm.
Analysis in solution: Quartz cuvettes.
